Gaining membership to the Royal College of Surgeons is a dream of many doctors. To turn this dream into a reality, one must pass both parts of the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) exam.
MRCS Part A:
This exam consists of 2 papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam consists of a total of 300 Single Best Answer (SBA) questions. The average pass mark is 70%.
MRCS Part B: The MRCS Part B exam is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination which consists of 13 stations (previously 18). Candidates spend 10 minutes in each station and assessed on how well they are able to interact with patients, simulating a day one surgical registrar.
Passing both parts of the MRCS grants you membership to the RCS. It also allows you to gain GMC registration with the license to practice in the UK (English Language Competency exam of IELTS or OET must be passed to gain this).
Very concise and to the point post. I look forward to your exciting new course!
